8. Don’t
loose the install disks
As above there is a high rate of failure in laptop disk
drives so it is important to keep all the install disks
that came with the laptop so you can install the operating
system and utilities again if necessary. Keep the license
information safe as well.
9. Do take
care of the battery
The battery life published by the manufacturer is for ideal
conditions and for a brand new battery. As the battery goes
through a number of cycles this will reduce. Make sure you
read the manual to see how to take care of the battery
life. The general rule is don’t keep running the battery
for short periods. If you go on the battery let the machine
drain down and then fully charge again.
10. Do work
out the full costs before buying
When you see the base cost this usually is for a basic
model, look at the memory you need any preinstalled
software, warranties and delivery costs before comparing to
other models.
11. Don’t be
pressurized into buying
We always recommend you seeing the laptop in person at a
store but don’t buy there and them shop around especially
on-line to find the best deal.
12. Do
consider desktops
Everyone is buying laptops at the moment but for the cost
you could buy a more powerful desktop so make sure you are
really going to use the portability of a laptop.
Good luck buying
